Justin's work stands out as highly original, deep and inspired amidst all
too often cliche film music. We searched far and wide for the best composer for
our film and Justin exceeded expectations. He brings his full talent and heart
to his music, and it consistently shows. From narrative, to documentary to industrials,
Justin has the range and sensitivity to tailor his music to specific needs.
And he is a joy to work with!

Justin did the music for my film "Carissa," and I cannot imagine
a better possible experience or more nuanced, beautiful and original
score. I looked at over 100 composers before I decided to go with him,
and it was one of the best decisions I made on the film.
-DAVID SAUVAGE - Director and Producer
“Justin Melland's film music is where the rubber meets the road
between underscore and pure composition. His work was on time, on
point, and on the money.”
-JOE BROIDO - Emmy® Award Winning
Film Producer
Composer Justin Melland’s ability to rapidly create rich, poignant music and his masterful command over a wide array of musical styles has quickly placed him among today’s most sought after film composers. After finishing his Master’s Degree in music composition at UCLA and UC Berkeley, one of his first composing positions was to write an original score for “The Death of Kevin Carter, Casualty of the Bang Bang Club” which was nominated in 2006 for an Oscar® by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is distributed by HBO. With over 30 feature and documentary film credits to his name, Justin has become known for his wonderfully eclectic scores and his constant use of LA’s finest studio musicians, which always elevate his music to the highest level of quality. This has made him the favorite of a growing number of award winning producers in both the live action and documentary film worlds which has created a very demanding but deeply rewarding composing environment.
In addition to his very full film composing schedule, he has also written the scores for seven successful television series: “Live Through This” (Fuse), “Inside” (National Geographic/PBS), “Undercover History” (National Geographic), “City Confidential” (A&E), "Frontline/WORLD" (PBS, Discovery/Times), The Human Weapon (History) and "Snapped" (oxygen).
While spending a great deal of time scoring films in Hollywood, Justin also creates his own autonomous music both for recording and live performance. His style of songwriting has an edgy, mysterious quality, and employs a fusion of modern rhythms, ethereal guitars, and an arsenal of orchestral and ambient electronic textures. He also works very closely with world renowned photographer and film maker Aaron Hawks scoring his truly unique works. Justin creates music at his studio in Venice, Ca.
